US Commerce Dept weighs IPv6 for government-wide use

The US Commerce Department is accepting public comments on the costs and benefits of switching to IP Version 6 from Version 4.

The request for comments released today hints at possible large-scale use of the protocol across all agencies.

The government “must fully explore the costs and technical impacts of large-scale deployment,” Michael Gallagher, acting assistant secretary for communications and information, said in a statement.
